Social Proof: An Ode to Facebook

September 2, 2012 by Stephen Pasquini

Sometimes I wish it would go away.
The pictures of people “doing” their day
Announcing the things that make them unique
Providing to others little mystique

And as I scroll through the photos of lives
I begin to feel even more deprived
Saddened that I did not get a like
No 300 friends, No birthday delights.

Facebook thrives on social ties
The prize is what I truly despise
The time is spendy to prove one’s trendy
Social Proof, in a world so aloof.

Maybe I’m bitter, cuz my “feed” is just thinner
Or maybe it’s my lack of followers on twitter
If it wasn’t a need I would shut down my feed
